3RD STRING
Food For Thought
Every week I will be posting fashion marketing tips on my blog. I just started it so if you like what you read make sure you follow me. Launchmagazine757.wix.com/launch
How can a national championship game in college football help you as a designer? You have to do a little associating and thinking outside the box.
As a brand your name means something to people who buy it. As discussed in my first blog when you buy a Louis Vuitton suitcase, you have purchased the promise of a life of luxury; maids pack your clothing and porters shuttle it quickly to your destination where it is unpacked. When a woman, or gentleman, buys a Louis Vuitton bag, they’ve been granted access to the high end of fashion, art, cinema, entertainment, culture, music, gastronomy, design and travel. When you buy a pair of Jordan’s or Lebron’s you may feel like you can step on the court and be like him for a couple of seconds before reality hits. LOL. Most of the time you are buying a dream not a product.
“According to Harvard research, the number one skill that separates innovators from non creative professionals is associating: the ability to successfully connect unrelated questions, problems, or ideas from different fields.”
Steve Jobs was more effective than most people at generating creative ideas because he was skilled at making associations, connecting seemingly unrelated questions, problems, or ideas from different fields.
Let me tell you about a QB who was 3rd on the depth chart. In 3 starts at the end of the season he went 3-0 and now the team is national champions.
“3RD STRING” takes a totally different meaning now. For every kid who is stuck low on the depth chart when the moment arrives will you be ready? For the person who goes from virtually unknown to stardom when your time comes will you shine bright in that moment? Yes! “3RD STRING” is for all those people who work hard day in and day out and step up when your needed the most but for some reason through no fault of your own don’t get a chance to shine at first. “3RD STRING” symbolizes the people who have the patience and perseverance to make things happen. “3RD STRING”
I realize you can’t use the quarterback’s name but “3RD STRING” isn’t trademarked. ESPN, Yahoo Sports, Fox Sports, Sports Illustrated and more have been covering the national championship and millions of people have heard the story. The championship game gave ESPN its highest metered market result in its 35 year history and the best ever in cable history delivering a 18.5 overnight rating. This year’s championship game saw a 21% jump over last year’s Florida State vs. Auburn game. That’s huge.
In conclusion, my quote of the day from yesterday sums things up. “As long as you have an idea that improves someone’s life or moves society forward, then you have a story to tell. It’s up to you to communicate your story in a way that inspires, energizes, and excites your listeners. So if you’re a designer why not use “3RD STRING” to your advantage and make a clothing line based off of it. It’s already in millions of people’s minds across the world and is already motivating the next person who don’t get to shine at first to work hard and prove people wrong.
